Sonakshi Sinha was born on June 2, 1987, to film actors Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha in Bihar’s Patna. Sonakshi Sinha is the youngest of three children. She has two twin brothers, Luv and Kush Sinha.
She started out as a costume designer for films in 2005, and her acting debut came in the 2010 film, Dabangg, in which she starred opposite Salman Khan. It went on to become the highest-grossing film in 2010.
She acted in four movies in 2012. The first was Prabhu Deva’s Rowdy Rathore opposite Akshay Kumar, which did well at the box office. However, her second movie in 2012 which was Shirish Kunder's Joker, also opposite Akshay Kumar, failed disastrously.
Her third film, Son of Sardaar opposite Ajay Devgn, was an economic success but was poorly received by critics. Dabangg 2, which was a financial success also failed to impress critics.
Her first film in 2013 was the period romance-drama Lootera, opposite Ranveer Singh. Her performance in the movie garnered a lot of praise from critics. She followed it up with Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara! in which she was paired with Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan. Her next movie, Bullet Raja, opposite Saif Ali Khan, was a commercial flop.
Her more recent films include the 2019 period romance film Kalank, which had an ensemble cast featuring Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. She followed it up with Mission Mangal, which was an enormous commercial success. She also reprised her role in Dabangg 3 in the same year.
