A software engineer who began her career with a modest Rs 6 lakh annual salary is drawing attention online after sharing the practical strategies she says helped her land a Rs 2 crore role in the United States.

Rather than presenting her journey as a success story alone, she says she hopes it serves as a roadmap for others trying to navigate an increasingly competitive job market.

Devshree Bharatia shared her experience in a detailed Instagram post, reflecting on her progression from an engineering college in Pune to a thriving career abroad.

“I graduated from a Tier-3 college in Pune and started my career with a salary of Rs 6 LPA,” she wrote. “Where I am today is something I couldn’t have imagined, even in my wildest dreams.”

According to Bharatia, the biggest lesson from her journey was that career growth often depends on more than technical skills alone. “It took me 3 years to figure them out, but you can start applying them within 3 months,” she said, introducing a series of tips she believes can help job seekers accelerate their progress.

One of her key recommendations is to focus on visibility. Rather than relying solely on job portals, she encourages professionals to build a presence on LinkedIn so recruiters can discover them directly. “You can schedule an entire month of content in just one day,” she wrote, stressing that the goal is to establish credibility rather than become a social media influencer.

She also cautioned applicants against becoming discouraged by every rejection. “Nearly 30% of the jobs you apply to are ghost jobs,” Bharatia claimed, referring to listings that may no longer be actively hiring despite remaining online.

Beyond networking, she highlighted the importance of strengthening resumes with projects, hackathons and research work. “A generic resume rarely works. Tailor your resume for every role by aligning it closely with the job description,” she advised, noting that applicant tracking system (ATS) optimisation can significantly improve the chances of getting shortlisted.

Bharatia also emphasised thorough interview preparation, from data structures and system design questions to understanding a company’s product and business challenges. Her message ultimately resonated with many young professionals, offering a reminder that career growth is often the result of deliberate, consistent effort rather than a single breakthrough moment.
