Hyderabad woman thought she saw smoke above trees, then came the bizarre reveal

A Hyderabad-based woman was left baffled after what she initially thought was smoke from a fire turned out to be a massive swarm of mosquitoes hovering above the trees.

Instagram user Monica Juyal shared the video on her account after coming across the bizarre sight, which initially left her convinced that something was burning nearby.

In the video, she panned her camera towards what appeared to be dark, smoke-like trails floating above the trees.

“Look at that. When I saw this, initially I thought maybe there's a fire, maybe something big was burning behind the trees,” she said.

But after seeing the strange cloud for several minutes, she realised it was not smoke at all.

“I thought to myself then that it couldn't possibly be flames, it had to be something else. Can you guess what it is? It's a swarm of mosquitoes flying in the air. A huge swarm of them,” she said.

The footage showed several dark formations hovering above the trees, creating an eerie visual that looked remarkably similar to smoke billowing from a fire.

Juyal captioned the video, “Mosquito attack in Hyderabad,” and the unusual sight quickly had viewers offering their own theories about what could have caused the swarm.

One user blamed the decline of dragonflies, which are natural predators of mosquitoes, while another claimed the insects could be male mosquitoes swarming together to attract females for mating.

The comments section also took a more humorous turn. One person jokingly called the mosquito swarm Hyderabad’s “new attraction”, quipping that everyone had been complaining about the city’s nightlife.

Whatever the reason behind the unusually large swarm, the sight certainly gave Hyderabad’s evening skyline a rather unexpected makeover.
