Mumbai VFX artist recreates iconic Girgaon Chowpatty Ganesh Visarjan, shares video

A VFX artist from Mumbai gave Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations an artsy twist by recreating the city's iconic Girgaon Chowpatty in miniature, complete with a giant Ganesh idol, devotees, police personnel, politicians and even tourists.

Instagram user Mann shared a video of his intricate creation, which recreated the atmosphere of Girgaon Chowpatty during the annual Ganesh Visarjan celebrations.

Girgaon Chowpatty is one of the key hubs for Mumbai’s annual Ganesh Visarjan celebrations, when thousands of devotees make their way to the seafront to bid farewell to Lord Ganesha idols after the festival.

The beach also becomes a busy public space during other major celebrations, including Ramlila, making it a familiar part of Mumbai’s festive landscape.

In the video, Mann showed the miniature setup in detail, with a huge Lord Ganesha idol placed at the centre and dozens of tiny figures gathered around it.

The scene featured miniature devotees, Mumbai Police personnel, civic workers, politicians and reporters from different news channels, along with figures representing foreign visitors.

The level of detail made the miniature version look remarkably realistic, with hand-painted figures and tiny elements bringing the bustling scene to life. A smoke effect in the background further added to the atmosphere of the recreation.

Sharing the video, Mann said his artwork was inspired by the annual scene at Girgaon Chowpatty, where crowds gather to bid farewell to Bappa. He said the miniature also featured the Mumbai Police and politicians joining the celebrations, while carrying a message about saving water and keeping nature clean.

"Visarjan teaches us that everything that comes must one day go, but Bappa who lives in your heart never truly leaves," he wrote.

The miniature recreation left viewers impressed, with one person praising the patience and hard work that went into creating it. Another admitted that they initially thought the visuals were real, while others called the artist's creativity exceptional.

"Ganpati Bappa Morya" also featured prominently in the reactions as viewers praised the recreation.
