DMK chief M.K. Stalin has hit out at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay over remarks concerning his arrest under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). Stalin accused the Chief Minister and the TVK government of using MISA and the Sarkaria Commission as diversionary tactics because they are unable to answer opposition questions. Responding to the controversy, Stalin stated that he does not need to prove his imprisonment under MISA to anyone and maintained that nobody is qualified to judge his sacrifice. He added that his history regarding MISA has been documented and remains an indelible mark that cannot be erased by time.

The investigation into the death of an IIT Bombay student has been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch following serious allegations by his family. The second-year BTech student was found hanging in his hostel room hours after allegedly being caught using a mobile phone with ChatGPT during an examination. His mother claimed he was tortured and killed, while the police registered an abetment of suicide case based on his father's complaint against several individuals. IIT Bombay maintained that no disciplinary action had been taken and that the student had been counselled. The incident sparked protests across the campus as students demanded a transparent investigation.

Two people, including an eight-year-old child and a woman, died and six others sustained serious injuries following an electrocution incident at a Ganpati pandal in Mumbai's Kala Chowki, Reay Road area. The electric shock occurred at a temporary stall during the gathering. Following the incident, the power supply was partially disconnected and the site cordoned off as authorities inspected the wiring and safety setup. An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the cause of the electrical failure.

In a major breakthrough in the Amritsar ASI Harjit Singh murder case, prime accused Deepak Singh was killed in an encounter with the Punjab Police. According to the police, the accused opened fire at a checkpoint, discharging four rounds, prompting the police to fire six rounds in self-defence. A pistol, two magazines, live cartridges, an Activa scooter, and a mobile phone were recovered from the spot. Police stated that the accused had links to a Pakistan-based operative and the Shehzad Bhatti gang, lured with money and narcotics to target police personnel. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the second identified suspect who remains at large.
