A section of a balcony in a flat at a residential complex in Gurugram collapsed on Thursday morning, prompting a police and administrative response and renewing residents' concerns over the structural safety of the housing project. No one was injured in the incident, residents said.

The incident occurred in Tower E of the Imperia Esfera Phase-2 complex in Sector 37D. Residents said a loud crashing sound was heard when a portion of a second-floor balcony gave way and fell to the ground.

According to residents, several people were passing through the area below the balcony at the time, but no one was hurt by the falling debris.

Police and local administration officials reached the site soon after the incident, cordoned off the area and conducted a preliminary inspection. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.

The incident has triggered anger among residents, who alleged that the collapse was the result of the builder's continued negligence. They said they had staged a protest inside the society last month over the poor condition of basic amenities and had repeatedly raised concerns about maintenance and safety.

Following Thursday's incident, residents demanded that the administration order an independent third-party structural audit of the entire housing project, arguing that no tower could be considered safe until the structural integrity of the complex had been comprehensively assessed.

"This is a deeply alarming incident. Although the flat was unoccupied, the falling debris could have seriously injured residents passing below. The collapse has also damaged a pillar, raising concerns about the structural safety of the entire tower. We will file a police complaint and seek an investigation by the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTP)," Hemant Kumar, president of the society's Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The balcony collapse has intensified residents' demands for accountability from the builder and a comprehensive safety review of the project, even as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in Gurugram over the coming days after the city witnessed another spell of heavy showers on Thursday morning, triggering widespread waterlogging and severe traffic snarls.

Vehicular movement slowed to a crawl on several key stretches, including the Delhi-Jaipur Highway service lane near Narsinghpur, Basai, Kadipur and Sohna Road, with several vehicles breaking down in waterlogged areas.

Residents also reported multiple rain-related incidents. A cyclist allegedly fell into a pit dug for a sewer line in Feroze Gandhi Colony, while a cow was injured after slipping into another excavation site on Wednesday. In a separate incident, a school bus got stuck in a dug-up stretch in Rajendra Park, locals said.
