"A case has been registered. The accused SSI has been suspended and the investigation has been handed over to the ACP, Cantonment. Further action will be taken based on the evidence that emerges during the probe," the DCP said.

According to the complainant, she had earlier lodged a case against a man from Basti district, accusing him of establishing a physical relationship with her on the false promise of marriage.

The case was transferred to Ashiyana police station in Lucknow through a zero FIR, where Dharmveer Shahi was assigned as the investigating officer.

The student alleged that on February 21, Shahi called her to the police station and informed her that he would personally investigate the case.

She claimed that he subsequently began contacting her frequently and allegedly made obscene remarks during their conversations.

According to the complaint, the officer allegedly told her that since the case was old, she would have to establish physical relations again to strengthen the investigation.

When she objected, he allegedly assured her that he would marry her, give her the status of a wife and remain with her for life.

The complainant alleged that, relying on these assurances, she was sexually exploited multiple times between March and July.

She further claimed that around one-and-a-half months ago, she accompanied the accused to Varanasi, where she discovered that he was already married.

When she confronted him and insisted on marriage, he allegedly began avoiding her and later assaulted and abused her.

The woman also alleged that on the night of July 30, Shahi summoned her to Ashiyana police station, where he and two others allegedly assaulted her, snatched her mobile phone and threatened to kill her and her family if she approached senior police officials.

She alleged that the phone was taken to destroy chats, photographs, videos and other evidence.

Police have registered a case and said the allegations are being investigated. Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
