Residents said the tenant had stepped out of the room moments earlier to drink water, narrowly escaping injury. Had the occupant remained in bed, the collapse could have resulted in serious injuries or even proved fatal.

Videos and photographs from the flat, which have since circulated widely on social media, showed chunks of concrete and plaster strewn across the bed and floor, with dust filling the room after the collapse.

The incident triggered panic among residents, many of whom said that they had repeatedly flagged concerns with the builder over the quality of construction in the society.

They claimed that cracked walls, falling plaster, damaged balconies and other structural defects had been reported on several occasions, but no lasting remedial measures were taken.

Residents accused the builder of failing to address longstanding complaints despite repeated representations. They said the latest incident has intensified fears over the safety of those living in the complex, with many questioning whether similar failures could occur in other apartments.

Following the collapse, residents demanded that the Noida Authority order a comprehensive structural safety audit of the entire Gardenia Gateway complex and ensure that all construction-related deficiencies are rectified on priority to prevent any loss of life.

Neither the builder nor the concerned authorities had issued an official statement on the incident till the filing of this report.
