DU UG Admissions 2026: ECA, sports quota rules, trial process announced
Delhi University has set out trial schedules and admission rules for ECA and sports quota candidates. The separate process will feed into UG admissions after the third regular allocation round.

The University of Delhi will begin conducting physical trials for admissions under the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota from around July 15, while applicants seeking admission through the Sports Supernumerary Quota will also be required to appear for discipline-specific trials. University officials said admissions and seat allocations under both categories will be carried out after the third round of the undergraduate seat allocation process.
Officials on Thursday clarified that admissions under the ECA and Sports Supernumerary Quota will be processed separately from the regular Common Seat Allocation System for Undergraduate Admissions (CSAS-UG), as both categories require candidates to undergo trials. Meanwhile, the first and second phases of the undergraduate admission process are currently underway simultaneously.
PREFERENCE FILLING DEADLINE, TRIAL DATES
Candidates can complete subject mapping and submit their programme and college preferences until 11.59 pm on July 11, after which the preferences will be locked automatically. A correction window will remain available from 10 am on Friday, July 10, to 11.59 pm on Saturday, July 11, allowing applicants to make changes to their application forms.
The first allocation list under the regular admission process will be released on July 16. Officials said admissions under the ECA and Sports Supernumerary Quota will be conducted after, or along with, the third round of regular seat allocations.
Under the ECA quota, candidates are allowed to apply in a maximum of three ECA categories, including sub-categories, and are required to upload their five best certificates related to the selected activity while filling the application form.
Delhi University offers admissions under 14 ECA categories, including dance, music, theatre, debate, creative writing, fine arts, digital media, quiz and yoga.
The schedule and venue for the physical trials will be finalised after Phase II of the admission process concludes, based on the total number of applications received, and will be uploaded on the university's admission portal. Officials said no separate communication regarding the trials will be sent to candidates.
They added that the certificates uploaded by candidates must match the specific ECA sub-category for which admission is being sought.
Admission under the ECA quota will be determined by giving 25 per cent weightage to the candidate's CUET UG score and 75 per cent weightage to the highest score secured in the ECA trial.
Officials said candidates who are allotted seats through the ECA category will have their regular CSAS seat allocation adjusted. Once a candidate accepts the seat offered through the ECA quota, the regular seat allocation will automatically stand cancelled.
Admissions under the Sports Supernumerary Quota will be held across 28 disciplines, and candidates can apply in up to three sports.
The university has divided sports into three categories - team games, dual and combat sports, and individual sports - with separate evaluation methods prescribed for each.
For team games, candidates will be assessed out of a total of 400 marks, with 200 marks assigned for evaluation of fundamental skills and the remaining 200 marks for performance during the trial.
For dual and combat sports, as well as individual disciplines such as archery, athletics, gymnastics and swimming, the evaluation will be based entirely on trial performance carrying 400 marks.
Sports certificates obtained during the three-year period from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2026, will be considered during the admission process.
The final merit list under the Sports Supernumerary Quota will be prepared by assigning 25 per cent weightage to the CUET UG score, 25 per cent to the highest marks obtained in the evaluation of uploaded sports merit or participation certificates, and 50 per cent to the highest score secured in the sports trial.
The university had earlier published the sports-wise seat matrix for the 2026-27 academic session, under which 2,153 seats are available across 28 disciplines through the Sports Supernumerary Quota.
