UP Board to print student signatures on admit cards from 2027 to curb cheating
The Uttar Pradesh Board has introduced a new identity verification measure for the 2027 board examinations. Students' signatures will now appear on admit cards to curb impersonation and strengthen exam security.
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has announced a major change in the Class 10 and 12 board examination process. From the 2027 board exams, students' signatures will be printed on their admit cards in an effort to prevent impersonation and make examinations more secure.
The decision comes as the board begins registrations for the 2026-27 academic session. Along with photographs, schools are now collecting students' signatures, which will become a permanent part of the admit card issued for the board examinations.
A NEW LAYER OF IDENTITY CHECK
The signature printed on the admit card will be matched with the student's signature on the answer booklet and attendance sheet at the examination centre. Board officials believe this additional verification step will make it much harder for proxy candidates to appear in place of registered students.
The move follows several instances of impersonation reported during previous UP Board examinations. According to officials, organised cheating rackets allegedly used edited photographs and fake identities to send "solvers" to write examinations on behalf of candidates. Multiple FIRs were registered in such cases.
By introducing signatures on admit cards, the board hopes to strengthen identity verification and reduce opportunities for malpractice.
REGISTRATION TIMELINE
The registration process for Class 10 and Class 12 students is currently underway and will remain open until August 5.
For private candidates, principals of forwarding centres will accept application forms and examination fees until the same date. Examination fees can be deposited through a single treasury challan until August 10, while candidates missing the deadline can still apply with a late fee of Rs 100 per student until August 16.
UP Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh has directed school principals to upload students' educational details and fee information on the board portal by midnight on August 16. Schools must also submit photograph-based registration lists and treasury documents by September 30.
