A 17-year-old riding a moped with his 14-year-old sister pillion crashed into a streetlight pole on Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Riverfront, and both died. Police have started an investigation into how the minor got the vehicle and whether its owner faces action.

The siblings, residents of Shantivan in the Paldi area, had gone to their mother’s office in Navrangpura on a moped on the afternoon of July 27. They were returning home from Navrangpura via the Riverfront when the accident occurred.
The 17-year-old boy, identified as Kavya, suffered severe head injuries and died at the spot. His 14-year-old sister, Jaina, who was riding pillion, was critically injured and taken to SVP Hospital, where she later died.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem. The family has been informed about the incident, and M-Division Traffic Police have begun further investigation.
Police suspect that the accident occurred after the rider lost control of the moped. Investigators will also determine whether the 17-year-old had a valid driving licence and who owned the vehicle.
If the vehicle was given to the minor without a licence, police said legal action would also be taken against the owner.
