Uttar Pradesh government orders statewide crackdown on illegal coaching centres
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a statewide drive to regulate coaching institutes and ensure student safety. District administrations have been directed to identify illegal centres and inspect registered ones for compliance.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a strict statewide campaign to regulate coaching institutes, with a clear focus on student safety and accountability. Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said the government will not tolerate any negligence or irregularity in the system.
District Magistrates across all districts have been directed to carry out detailed surveys and prepare lists of all coaching institutes operating in their areas. The move aims to identify unregistered centres and ensure action under the Uttar Pradesh Coaching Regulation Act, 2002.
CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL CENTRES
According to official instructions, strict action will be taken against coaching institutes found operating without registration. The government has said such centres often bypass safety norms and put students at risk.
Alongside this, registered institutes are also under review. Safety audits are being conducted to check building stability, fire safety systems, electrical arrangements and basic infrastructure facilities. Officials said compliance with rules will be strictly monitored.
A letter issued by Special Secretary (Higher Education) Nidhi Srivastava has further directed districts to maintain continuous inspection drives. Authorities will also assess whether institutions are providing essential facilities and maintaining proper administrative standards.
STUDENT SAFETY FIRST, SAYS GOVERNMENT
Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said the Yogi government is working to ensure a “safe, organised and reliable educational environment” for students preparing for higher education and competitive exams. He added that student and parent interests remain the top priority.
The minister stressed that the government’s goal is 100 per cent compliance with prescribed standards across all coaching institutes in the state. “No form of irregularity or negligence will be tolerated,” he said.
CONTINUOUS MONITORING IN PLACE
Officials said the campaign will not be a one-time exercise but a continuous monitoring system. District-level teams will regularly inspect institutes and update compliance records.
The government has also emphasised coordination between departments to ensure uniform enforcement of rules. Authorities believe the drive will help improve transparency in the rapidly growing coaching sector, which plays a key role in preparing students for competitive examinations across Uttar Pradesh.
