A video falsely claims Pakistani cricketer Hasan Ali was beaten up while visiting his in-laws. The man in the video is actually a thief caught stealing on a train in Punjab.

The man is not the Pakistani bowler. The video actually shows a thief getting caught on a train in Punjab.
A video purportedly showing Pakistani cricketer Hasan Ali being beaten up on an Indian train is going viral on social media. Allegedly, he had come to India to visit his in-laws when he was thrashed. Hasan Ali’s wife, Samiya, is from India.
A Facebook user shared the video and wrote, “Cricketer Hassan Ali India Trip to Visit His In-Laws Proved Costly.”
An X user shared the clip and wrote, “Pakistani cricketer Hasan Ali, who had gone to India to visit his in-laws, wife, and children, was mistreated on a train in Delhi. Hasan Ali was beaten with sticks. Well Deserved Abuse for Hassan Ali, people treated him like how he deserved. India Today Fact Check found that the man seen in the viral video is not the Pakistani cricketer. He’s a pickpocket who was caught stealing in Punjab’s Ludhiana.
OUR PROBE
We reverse-searched frames from the viral video, which led us to its longer version shared on X on July 12. Its caption read: "A Thief was caught stealing by people in the train. They called RPF & comes RPF ASI & gave him thrashing."
We also found another version of the video uploaded to Instagram on July 17. According to its caption, the incident showed a man being caught red-handed while stealing from a passenger's bag on a train in Punjab.
To verify the claim, we contacted the Punjab Railway Police Control Room, where officials told us that the incident took place in Ludhiana. They also identified the police officer seen in the video as Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar.
We then spoke to Anil Kumar, who confirmed that the incident took place on July 8 on a train travelling from Jammu to Kolkata.
According to him, the accused boarded the train from Phagwara. He had earlier been stopped from boarding but somehow managed to get onto the train. When the train reached Ludhiana, passengers caught him allegedly stealing a gold locket from a passenger's bag and started beating him.
Kumar said he reached the coach while on patrol and brought the situation under control. The accused was then taken to the Ludhiana Government Railway Police station. He further said that the passenger whose gold locket was stolen, Pappu, recovered his locket but refused to file a complaint.
Anil Kumar also confirmed that the man in the viral video was not Pakistani cricketer Hasan Ali.
Additionally, on Instagram, his wife, Samiya, shared a clarification. She wrote that Hasan Ali had not visited India in the last three years, and that the video did not show the cricketer. She urged people not to share misinformation.
Hence, it is clear that the man being beaten up in the viral video is not Pakistani cricketer Hasan Ali.
