Fact Check: NONE of these photos show the Sri Ganganagar rape victim — who is alive!
The Sri Ganganagar Police have confirmed to India Today Fact Check that the victim is not dead and is currently with her family.
Social media platforms are awash with posts claiming that the 13-year-old who was allegedly gangraped for several days in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar has died after being hospitalised for five days. Some shared photos purportedly showing the minor of the victim. Others shared videos allegedly showing the police transporting her body on a stretcher.
The investigating officer of this case, additional SP Kailash Dan, confirmed to India Today that none of these photos or videos show the Sri Ganganagar rape victim, who is alive and with her family.
So, let’s look at some of these claims:
GUJARAT ORGAN DONOR
Claim: A video showing medical professionals escorting a person lying on a hospital bed was shared with the claim that it showed the Sri Ganganagar rape victim’s final moments in the hospital. People could be seen showering her with rose petals.
Fact: This video dates back to June, when 25-year-old Kajalben’s family had donated her organs after she was declared brain-dead by Gandhinagar Civil Hospital in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.
According to Nav Gujarat Samay, Kajalben had tried to die by suicide with her two sons by jumping into a canal. One of her sons had also died in this incident.
VIDEO FROM UTTARAKHAND
Claim: A video of policemen transporting a person’s body to an ambulance was also shared in the context of the Sri Ganganagar gangrape. Allegedly, this showed the victim’s dead body.
Fact: This video dates back to September 2025, when a 13-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar. Her blood-stained body was found in a sugarcane field. A man called Rajeev was arrested, who confessed to committing the crime. The viral video was featured in several news reports about the case at the time.
AI MAGES
Claim: Three photos of a woman in a black sari holding a girl wearing a brown kurta lying on a hospital bed have been widely shared. Those sharing the photos claimed that it showed the gangrape victim, who had died.
Fact: OpenAI’s detection tool identified these photos as AI-generated. Another synthetic image detection tool, Hive Moderation, also gave the same result.
These photos were created using a video of an alleged rape victim from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district. The outfits in the viral images look identical to what the Hardoi’s rape victim and the two other people in the video are wearing.
A DIFFERENT GIRL
Claim: An image of a girl wearing a pink striped shirt is also being shared as the Sri Ganganagar rape victim.
Fact: We found Instagram posts featuring a garlanded framed photo of the girl in a pink shirt. The date of death mentioned at the bottom of the photo frame was May 25, 2026. As per reports, the victim of the Sri Ganganagar case went missing on June 18 and was allegedly gangraped multiple times between June 18 and June 22.
Additional SP Kailash Dan confirmed to us that this girl was not the Sri Ganganagar victim. The Sri Ganganagar police also clarified in a social media post that the victim was safe with her family.
So, it’s clear that none of these photos and videos show the Sri Ganganagar rape victim.
