Foodbandi: Akhilesh Yadav on cops' food-delivery ops advisory near Jantar Mantar

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday criticised the Delhi Police's decision to regulate food delivery and app-based services around Jantar Mantar amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest, dubbing the move "foodbandi" and comparing it to demonetisation.
Reacting to the restrictions, Yadav took to X and wrote, "Roti mat chhino! (Notebandi ke baad Foodbandi)," accusing the authorities of depriving people of access to food while attempting to maintain law and order in the national capital.
The restrictions come after the administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in and around Jantar Mantar, where the CJP has been holding an indefinite protest over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
Amid the controversy, Delhi Police on Friday dismissed social media claims that food delivery services had been banned across the New Delhi area. In a post on X, the police termed the claims "false, baseless and misleading", clarifying that no blanket ban had been imposed on food delivery app services. It urged citizens not to share unverified information and to rely only on official sources for authentic updates.
DELHI POLICE ASKS DELIVERY PLATFORMS TO REGULATE
In an advisory, the Delhi Traffic Police directed app-based mobility and delivery platforms to regulate their services within the notified area until further orders. The advisory applies to ride-hailing services, food delivery platforms, quick-commerce operators, logistics firms and other e-commerce services.
According to the police, the restrictions have been imposed to maintain public order and ensure the safety of delivery partners, drivers and commuters in view of the ongoing law-and-order situation. Authorities also advised the public to avoid travelling to the affected areas unless necessary.
The restrictions have effectively disrupted the movement of food delivery personnel and other app-based service providers within the notified zone, drawing criticism from opposition leaders, including Yadav.
TRADERS REQUEST STORES TO STAY SHUT
Separately, the New Delhi Traders Association on Thursday had issued an advisory requesting shopkeepers, office establishments and restaurant owners in Connaught Place to shut their establishments by 6.30 pm. The association said the advisory was issued following guidance from the Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), citing security arrangements and traffic restrictions linked to the protest.
The CJP's agitation at Jantar Mantar has continued for several days, prompting heightened security measures, multi-layered barricading and traffic diversions across central Delhi as authorities seek to prevent any deterioration in the law-and-order situation.
