Family dispute ends in tragedy as 4 attempt suicide in Bihar's Nalanda, 2 dead

A family dispute in Bihar's Nalanda district turned tragic after four members of the same family attempted suicide. Two people died, while two others are undergoing treatment, with one reported to be in critical condition.

Two members of a family died and two others were hospitalised after attempting suicide following a family dispute in Bihar's Nalanda district, police said.

The incident took place in the Chandi police station area, where members of the same family reportedly took the extreme step after an argument at home.

According to family members, Dilendra Tanti and Purushottam Tanti allegedly attempted suicide by hanging themselves, while Gauri Devi and Ranjit Tanti allegedly consumed poison.

So far, Dilendra Tanti and his daughter-in-law Gauri Devi have died. Ranjit Tanti and Purushottam Kumar are undergoing treatment at a private clinic, with one of them stated to be in critical condition.

Relatives said everything had been normal in the family before a sudden dispute broke out, following which four members of the household took the drastic step. However, they did not specify the exact reason behind the dispute.

The Station House Officer of Chandi police station said that, according to information available so far, three people had attempted suicide, of whom two died while the third is undergoing treatment.

Family members also said there had been previous incidents of physical altercations between the father and son.

Police have taken custody of the bodies of Dilendra Tanti and Gauri Devi and sent them to Bihar Sharif Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
