Gujarat man calls friend out for tea, beats him to death for messaging his sister
Three people, including the woman's brother, have been arrested, while proceedings have been started against a minor allegedly involved in the crime.
A 23-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a friend and his associates in Gujarat’s Rajkot after the accused objected to his Instagram messages to the latter’s sister, police said on Tuesday.

The victim, Umang Jakhelia, lived in the Rukhadia Phatak area of Rajkot and worked as a painter. According to the complaint filed by his father, Ranjeet Jakhelia, the main accused Nazir and another man came to their house on the afternoon of July 27 and took Umang away on a scooter, saying they were going out for tea.
Police said Umang was taken to a deserted, dilapidated area near the old railway station.
Investigators believe Nazir, along with another accused, Sujal Ramavat, assaulted him with sticks and metal pipes for nearly an hour. Around 5 pm, the accused allegedly left Umang seriously injured near his locality and fled.
Family members rushed him to Rajkot Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police said the body showed multiple injury marks consistent with a severe assault.
During the investigation, officers found that Umang had been in contact with Nazir’s sister through social media.
Police said Nazir became enraged after discovering the messages and allegedly planned the attack. Investigators also said Umang was a close friend of Nazir’s elder brother, Ghulam Hussain alias Asif Kakkal, and frequently visited the family’s home.
The Pradyumnanagar police have registered a case under relevant provisions related to murder and common intention and arrested Nazir alias Gheti, Asif Kakkal and Sujal Ramavat.
A minor accused is being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in accordance with legal procedure.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and the role of each accused. The case has sparked concern in Rajkot over violent crimes arising from personal and social media disputes.
