The Jaisalmer railway station has been redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, giving one of Rajasthan's busiest tourist gateways a modern upgrade while preserving its iconic heritage look. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the revamped station as part of the nationwide launch of redeveloped railway stations.
The project combines traditional Rajasthani architecture with improved passenger amenities, making the station more comfortable, accessible and equipped to handle growing tourist and passenger traffic.
HERITAGE DESIGN WITH A MODERN TOUCH
The station's new design draws inspiration from Jaisalmer's famous yellow sandstone architecture and the city's historic forts and havelis.
While retaining the region's cultural identity, the redevelopment introduces modern infrastructure to improve the overall travel experience for passengers.
NEW FACILITIES FOR PASSENGERS
The upgraded station now offers several modern amenities, including spacious waiting areas, improved seating, better lighting, enhanced passenger information systems and facilities for differently abled travellers.
Accessibility has also been improved with lifts, escalators and other passenger-friendly features. Sustainable elements such as solar power installations have also been incorporated into the redevelopment.
