Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a truck driver accused of causing a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of a father and his three children in Hapur district. Officials said the driver fled the scene after allegedly hitting the family's motorcycle, and CCTV footage of the incident has since surfaced.

The accident took place on July 13 near the Bachhlauta flyover on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway (NH-9) when the truck, covered with a green tarpaulin, rammed into the motorcycle carrying the family. The collision threw all five occupants onto the road.

The police investigation has revealed that after hitting the motorcycle, the truck driver allegedly ran over two of the children who had fallen onto the road before fleeing the scene. He said the accused was traced and arrested based on CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts and technical evidence. The truck involved in the accident has also been seized.

Hapur City Circle Officer Anita Chauhan said the victims were identified as Ashok, a resident of Hasanpur village in Shahjahanpur district, who was travelling to Noida with his wife Rinky and their three children, Anuj, Meenakshi and Radhika.

The accident occurred at around 3.30 pm when the family reached the Bachhlauta flyover. A speeding truck approaching from behind allegedly hit their motorcycle, causing all five to fall onto the road. Ashok and the three children died on the spot, while Rinky sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a medical college in Meerut.

Police said their preliminary investigation suggested that two of the children could have survived had the truck driver stopped after the collision instead of attempting to flee. Instead, the driver allegedly ran over them before escaping.

A police team conducted searches across multiple districts before tracing the accused through CCTV footage and the truck's route. The driver has now been arrested, the vehicle recovered, and further legal proceedings are underway.
