An old interview clip of actor-model Muzammil Ibrahim speaking about his past relationship with actor Deepika Padukone has resurfaced online, and this time round, he has issued a clarification. As snippets of him saying he had ‘no regrets’ about the break-up and that he was the one who ended the relationship continued to circulate, Muzammil said the interview was not recent and that its context had been lost in the edits.

In a note shared on Instagram, Muzammil mentioned that the clip being passed off as ‘fresh claims’ was actually from an interview recorded over a year ago. He also stressed that he has always spoken about Deepika with respect, even as the older remarks began doing the rounds again.

Explaining his position, Muzammil wrote, “The interview being discussed and wrongly headlined as \"fresh claims\" was recorded over a year ago. What is currently being circulated are a few moments from a much longer conversation. The hesitation, the context, and the respect with which certain topics were discussed are often lost in the editing process and when excerpts are viewed in isolation (sic).” He highlighted that nuance had been missed in the way the clips were being shared.

“I have always tried to speak about people from my past with respect, and that remains unchanged. Like many others, I have spent years focused on building my work and my life, and that is where I hope the conversation remains. I stand by speaking honestly, and I stand by doing so respectfully. - Muzammil Ibrahim (sic),” the actor concluded.

The resurfaced clip is from Muzammil’s June 2025 interview with Siddharth Kanan, where he spoke, somewhat hesitantly, about his relationship with Deepika. In the portion now going viral, he said, “She (proposed to me first). I left her. No, I never regret leaving anyone. Main sakth launda hoon bhai. (I am a tough guy, brother). I was a star at that time; she was not. She was a model. She is a superstar now; nobody knows me. I’m a big fan.”

Muzammil also said that he was the first person Deepika met in Mumbai and the first man she had a serious relationship with. According to him, the two remained good friends for a few years after their break-up and stayed in touch over the phone, but have not spoken since her marriage. He also said her growth never made him jealous and that, with maturity, he is happy to see her doing well.

Muzammil went on to say that Deepika has a loving husband in actor Ranveer Singh and that the couple have a child, Dua, something he said she had always dreamt of. He also mentioned that Deepika and Ranveer are expecting their second child. On the work front, Deepika was last seen in Singham Again in 2024 and will next feature in director Atlee’s Raaka with Allu Arjun.

Deepika also has King, directed by Siddharth Anand and featuring actor Shah Rukh Khan, lined up. The film, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment is set to arrive as a big Christmas release this year.
