He said, "Dhurandhar was the most-watched non-English movie in the world this year. Bigger than every other non-English (movie) and second only to the US and the UK in terms of watching."

When asked if Indian films and shows have achieved the same global cultural impact as South Korea’s Squid Game or Spain’s Money Heist, Sarandos mentioned that while people frequently ask when India will have a similar breakout moment, the country is already producing globally successful content regularly and that such moments happen "all the time".

The Netflix CEO highlighted Indian cinema as the primary driver for global reach, adding that due to the country’s "enormous, beautiful, rich, long history of movies," any lasting international impact is "likely to come through in the form of cinema."

Sarandos emphasised that Netflix has featured an Indian movie or series in its global top 10 every week since 2024. He credited the platform’s algorithm for driving discovery and noted that Indian titles have already racked up 3.5 billion hours of global viewing this year.
