Had made peace with leaving: Yami Gautam was ready to quit Bollywood before Uri
Actor Yami Gautam said she was ready to leave Bollywood and return to Himachal before Uri and Bala. She said the phase taught her not to let fear shape her choices.
Actor Yami Gautam has revealed that she once came close to quitting Bollywood altogether. Yami admitted that she had made peace with leaving the film industry just before Uri: The Surgical Strike and Bala changed the course of her career in 2019. After her Bollywood debut with Vicky Donor (2012), the actor explained that the pressure to keep her career moving sometimes meant accepting roles while waiting for better opportunities.
Speaking about whether she had ever considered quitting Bollywood, Yami said she had reached a point where she was ready to leave the industry behind and return to Himachal.
“Yes. In fact, just before Uri and Bala, I had made peace with leaving the industry altogether. I thought I’d return to Himachal. We have farmland there. I imagined beginning a completely different life. My parents were incredibly supportive. They simply said, ‘Come home,'" she said.
The 37-year-old actor said the experience taught her one of the most important lessons of her career: not allowing fear to influence her choices.
Uri not only gave Yami Gautam’s career a boost but also brought her closer to director Aditya Dhar, whom she met on the film’s set. The two later got married in 2021 and welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Vedavid, in 2024.
Meanwhile, over the years, Yami has built a diverse filmography with titles such as Uri: The Surgical Strike, Bala, Dasvi, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaaga, OMG 2, Haq and Article 370 to her credit.
She was recently honoured with the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Article 370. Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, the film is based on the 2019 revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.
On the work front, Yami Gautam will be seen next in Nayyi Navelli. She is also set to be a part of Sujoy Ghosh' Kahaani 3.
