Actor Dhruv Vikram on private-life scrutiny, learning to be an 'army of one'
Dhruv Vikram said public scrutiny over his personal life has affected him. He said staying grounded and relying on close support helped him through it.

Actor Dhruv Vikram has opened up about dealing with intense scrutiny around his personal and private life, admitting that while being watched and discussed comes with his profession, it has affected him personally. The 30-year-old said during a session at the India Today Tamil Nadu Roundtable on Monday that this tough phase helped him become an "army of one."
Speaking at the event in Chennai, Dhruv said scrutiny is something actors learn to accept as part of the profession. "When you sign up for this line of work, you understand very early that scrutiny can possibly be part of the territory. As beautiful as the job is, it comes with many different sides. You learn to embrace all of them," he said.
However, Dhruv acknowledged that the attention has affected him. "To be honest, I cannot say it hasn't affected me. Personally, it is important to anchor yourself in reality, know what you are, know what you stand for and protect everyone you love fiercely. When you're aligned with the truth and know what anchors you, scrutiny can only go so far," he said.
The actor also credited the small group of people who have supported him throughout his career. He said that over time, he has learnt to become an "army of one", creating his own world and doing the inner work while staying close to the people he loves.
"Subconsciously, you learn to be an army of one, where you have your own world and do the inner work. You protect yourself in a bubble with the people you love as much as you can. I think the support that I have had has been very important to me," Dhruv said.
He also recalled how that support motivated him while working on Bison, his 2025 film. The actor stayed away from social media for years during the film's making, even as audiences repeatedly asked about his next project.
"When I was doing Bison, I didn't post for years. I was constantly getting messages asking about my next film, and I knew that people were waiting. When you're on the ground, prepping and your skin is tearing, I automatically thought of the people who would celebrate this one day on screen and hopefully feel proud. That drives you," he said.
Dhruv Vikram was last seen in Bison, directed by Mari Selvaraj, in which he plays a young kabaddi player. The film also stars Anupama Parameswaran, Pasupathy and Lal, and marked Dhruv's collaboration with Mari Selvaraj.
