Anurag Kashyap watches Mukundan Unni Associates, calls it absolute banger
Anurag Kashyap watched Mukundan Unni Associates with director Abhinav Sunder Nayak and praised it warmly. His signed note, Letterboxd review and Vineeth Sreenivasan's response amplified the film's buzz.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has praised the Malayalam filmmaker Abhinav Sunder Nayak's Mukundan Unni Associates, days after calling his second movie Mollywood Times one of the year's best films. Kashyap recently watched the 2022 Malayalam black comedy with him at his residence and later described it as an "absolute banger" in a glowing review.
On Tuesday, Abhinav Sunder Nayak shared pictures from the special screening on Instagram and said he spent an afternoon at Kashyap's residence discussing films, the industry and his latest directorial, Mollywood Times.
"Spent a whole entire afternoon with THE ANURAG KASHYAP at his residence, where we watched my debut film Mukundan Unni Associates together, spoke about the movies, the industry, Mollywood Times and more. This is a day I will cherish for life. He also gifted me a book with a signed note. Love you, sir!" he wrote.
Here's a video:
Among the highlights of the meeting was a handwritten note Kashyap left inside the book he gifted the filmmaker. It read, "Dear Abhinav, I love the filmmaker that you are. Keep it going. Do not change. The world can go f*** itself. Lots of love." The message drew a warm response online, with many reading it as an encouraging note to a younger filmmaker.
Kashyap's praise did not end with the private screening. He also logged Mukundan Unni Associates on Letterboxd and called it "an absolute banger". In his review, he wrote, "So brilliantly written and put together. Vineeth Sreenivasan is so good. It was also an experience to embarrass the filmmaker by watching the film with him. I am fan Abhinav (sic)."
The review quickly made its way to social media, where fans noted yet another endorsement of Malayalam cinema from the Gangs of Wasseypur director. Kashyap's latest appreciation came soon after his praise for Abhinav Sunder Nayak's recently released film Mollywood Times, which he had described as one of the finest films he had watched this year.
Vineeth Sreenivasan elated over Kashyap's review
Actor-filmmaker Vineeth Sreenivasan, who played the morally corrupt lawyer Mukundan Unni in Mukundan Unni Associates, also responded to Kashyap's review. Sharing a screenshot of the Letterboxd post, Vineeth said he was overwhelmed.
"I want to write so much, but I am at a loss of words. Dealing with a sea of emotions, reading the comment from one of my favourite filmmakers in India. I might delete this post tomorrow because sharing this do feel like a bit of a show off from my side. But this night let me show off. Grateful to you @abhinavsnayak. @anuragkashyap10 sir mentioned my name. That 13-year-old boy who saw Satya is spellbound! Thank you for Mukundan Unni (sic)," he wrote.
Released in 2022, Mukundan Unni Associates starred Vineeth Sreenivasan as an ambitious lawyer whose relentless pursuit of success gradually exposed his deeply unethical nature. Directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak, the dark satirical thriller was noted for its unconventional storytelling, sharp writing and Vineeth's against-type performance.
