With Alia Bhatt joining the cast, another major name has come on board the sequel to the 2018 cult fantasy-horror film Tumbbad. The original film, led by actor-producer Sohum Shah, gained a dedicated following over the years and enjoyed renewed commercial success during its theatrical re-release.
Sharing her excitement about joining the project, Alia Bhatt said in a statement, "Tumbbad has stayed with me ever since I first watched it. Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people's imagination years after they've released. Tumbbad 2 is being produced by Sohum Shah under the Sohum Shah Films banner in collaboration with Pen Studios, headed by producer Dr Jayantilal Gada. The sequel is directed by Adesh Prasad. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on December 3, 2027.
