Jason Sanjay wants to direct father Vijay alongside Jason Statham in Hollywood film
Jason Sanjay said he wants to direct Vijay and Jason Statham in a Hollywood film. The remark came as he discussed his move into filmmaking ahead of his debut, Sigma.
Jason Sanjay, son of actor-turned-politician Vijay, has said his dream Hollywood project would feature his father alongside Hollywood actor Jason Statham.
Speaking to Behindwoods TV, Jason was asked who he would pick from Tamil cinema if Statham wanted to collaborate with him.
The actor said, "My dad (Vijay). It will be a great collaboration." He also quipped that his answer would inevitably set off a wave of memes and jokes online.
Jason Sanjay made the remarks as he spoke about his entry into filmmaking ahead of his directorial debut, Sigma, featuring actor Sudeep. He opened up on his decision to pursue filmmaking over acting being shaped by growing up on film sets and becoming familiar with that world from a young age.
“Since childhood, I had access to sets. That was my privilege. I had good exposure. I started to feel comfortable there. I normalised going to sets as part of my life. So, the interest sparked from there,” Jason said.
He also highlighted that filmmaking was not the career he had first planned for himself. “At first, I wanted to become a pilot. In between, I was also interested in becoming a cricketer. It was during Class 11 and 12 that I started showing an interest in cinema. In college, I wanted to pursue filmmaking,” Jason added.
Jason emphasised that he never felt inclined towards acting because his real interest was always storytelling.
“Since childhood, I loved storytelling, randomly narrating incidents to my friends. Slowly, I started scribbling down these ideas. Eventually, it became a hobby. I went to Canada to learn filmmaking. There, I understood what I wanted to do,” he concluded.
Sigma, Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut featuring Sundeep Kishan, was initially scheduled for release on July 31 but has reportedly been postponed.
On the work front, Vijay was recently seen in director H Vinoth's Jana Nayagan.
