Lenin box office day 1: Akhil Akkineni's film delivers his career-best opening
Actor Akhil Akkineni's Lenin opened in theatres on July 10 and witnessed a strong first day at the box office. The makers claimed a career-best opening, though trade estimates differ in terms of worldwide total.

Director Murali Kishor Abburu’s rural drama Lenin, featuring actors Akhil Akkineni and Bhagyashri Borse, was released in theatres on July 10. The film opened to mixed reviews but posted a strong start at the box office on its first day, according to official figures.
Based on the figures shared by its makers, Lenin has delivered the biggest opening of Akhil’s career. However, trade website Sacnilk differed in reporting the worldwide total for the film’s opening day.
On Saturday, Lenin’s production house, Sithara Entertainments, said the film had grossed Rs 16.7 crore worldwide on day one. Announcing the figure, it wrote, “AKHIL 2.0 is here... and the box office has heard it loud and clear. A phenomenal 16.7 CR+ Worldwide Gross on Day 1 for #LENIN. The Telugu audience has once again celebrated good cinema in the grandest way possible. #BlockbusterLENIN (sic).”
Sacnilk, however, reported different numbers. According to the website, Lenin collected Rs 5.90 crore net and Rs 6.73 crore gross in India on its opening day. With Rs 3 crore from overseas added to that total, the film’s worldwide gross stood at Rs 9.73 crore, according to the website.
If the production house’s figures are taken into account, Lenin is Akhil’s highest opener so far. His previous film Agent had grossed Rs 8.14 crore worldwide in 2023, while Mr Majnu had grossed Rs 7 crore worldwide in 2019. Before Lenin, Akhil’s debut film Akhil: The Power of Jua, released in 2015, held his opening-day record with a Rs 13 crore worldwide gross.
Written and directed by Murali Kishor Abburu, Lenin also features Sivaji, Brahmaji, Easwari Rao and Sunil. The film has music by Thaman, editing by Navin Nooli and cinematography by Leon Britto.
Lenin, theatrically released on July 10.
