Delhi weather: Heat, humidity to dominate, temperature to hover around 41°C
The monsoon arrived in Kerala earlier this month, but its advance towards northwest India has been slower than usual, leaving Delhi humid and hot. Will it change today?

Delhi recorded its warmest morning in nearly two years on Sunday, June 28, as the region continues to face high temperatures and humidity.
The national capital, as well as the surrounding regions, have been facing relentless heat in recent days, similar to the intense summer heat they had experienced in previous months.
People in the Delhi-NCR region are now waiting for monsoon rains to arrive, but showers seem to have been delayed. And to make matters worse, heat has decided to stay.
HOW WILL THE WEATHER BE IN DELHI-NCR TODAY?
The weather agency has predicted a partly cloudy day on June 29, followed by a spell of very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in many parts of Delhi-NCR.
At the same time, the maximum temperature in the city is likely to settle between 40-42°C, while the minimum is expected to hover around 31°C.
Strong surface winds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, are expected in some areas, while several parts of Delhi could experience stronger winds of 40-50 kmph with gusts reaching 60 kmph towards the afternoon or evening.
The silver lining, according to the IMD, is that over the next 6 days, the minimum temperatures could see a drop of around 5-6°C.
According to the IMD’s forecast for Monday, June 29, isolated spells of light rain are likely across Delhi and surrounding regions.
While widespread rainfall is not expected, thunderstorms and gusty winds could provide temporary relief from the sweltering conditions that have persisted over the past week.
WHY IS MONSOON LATE?
The forecast is news that would provide comfort to many as the delayed southwest monsoon continues to allow hot and humid conditions to persist.
The monsoon reached Kerala earlier this month, but its advance towards northwest India has been slower than usual, leaving Delhi under prolonged pre-monsoon conditions.
The IMD has said atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further over parts of north India during the next few days. However, the weather agency is quite far from declaring the official onset of the monsoon over Delhi.
Until then, the capital is expected to continue experiencing a mix of intense daytime heat, high humidity and intermittent pre-monsoon showers.
While today’s forecast offers hope of some respite, residents should not expect an immediate end to the hot weather.
Any showers are likely to be localised and short-lived, with humid conditions expected to persist even after rainfall. A more sustained improvement in weather is likely only after the southwest monsoon officially reaches the national capital.
