SpaceX's biggest launch of the year came to an unexpected halt at the final moment of the countdown. Elon Musk has revealed what happened and what comes next for Starship.

SpaceX's much-awaited 13th test flight of Starship ended before it even began.

Posting on X shortly after the scrub, Musk wrote: "Some of the engines didn't start, triggering an automatic launch abort. Now offloading propellant."
He later added that SpaceX will replace two Raptor engines "for extra confidence," with the next launch attempt likely next week. A final revised date and time is yet to be decided.
The automatic abort system that stopped the launch from happening, is designed to halt space vehicles from taking off instantly if any critical parameter falls outside safe limits.
In the case of SpaceX's Flight 13, it prevented the rocket from lifting off with an incomplete engine ignition sequence.
WHAT IS FLIGHT 13 AND WHAT WILL IT DO?
Flight 13, also known as Integrated Flight Test-13 (IFT-13), was scheduled to build on lessons from previous Starship missions.
The test plan included deploying next-generation Starlink satellite simulators, demonstrating an in-space Raptor engine relight, and carrying out controlled splashdowns of both the Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage.
Each of these milestones is aimed at proving technologies that will eventually support routine satellite launches, lunar missions under Nasa's Artemis programme and, ultimately, human missions to Mars.
