Ex-GitHub CEO brings AI coding platform to India, promises faster access for developers
Former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke has launched Entire's India Git region for local repository hosting and mirroring. The move targets data residency needs and faster access as AI-led coding grows in India.
Former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke is pitching its new AI-focused developer platform Entire to India, aiming to help developers and companies build software faster while keeping their code infrastructure closer to home. Entire has launched an India region for its Distributed Git Network, allowing developers and enterprises to host or mirror their Git repositories within India. The move is expected to help organisations meet data residency requirements while reducing delays caused by accessing repositories hosted in other regions.
Announcing the launch on X, Dohmke said, "Today, we are proud to be the first AI-native developer platform to offer data residency in India. Now every developer in India, and their agents, can mirror their GitHub repos and clone fast, with low latency and high rate limits, right at home."
The launch comes as India becomes one of the world’s largest developer markets. Dohmke believes the country will play a major role in the future of software development and AI-powered coding.
“We remain convinced that India is going to become the largest developer community on the planet,” Dohmke told AIM. “We’re super excited about bringing the capability of mirroring GitHub repositories into India and hosting repositories with Indian data residency.”
Faster coding access with local repositories
Entire’s India expansion focuses on improving the way developers and AI agents access and work with code repositories. According to Dohmke, keeping a local copy of repositories can help developers continue working even if connectivity between regions is disrupted.
“If you mirror a repository, you always have a copy available,” he told AIM. “If the connection between Indian data centres and the United States goes down, you still have access.”
The company claims its platform can deliver faster repository operations compared to traditional Git workflows. Entire says cloning repositories through its network can be more than three times faster than GitHub, helping both developers and AI agents complete tasks quickly.
The platform is designed to handle heavy workloads created by AI coding tools. Entire claims its network can support nearly 570,000 Git clones per hour from a single repository and around 2.1 million Git pushes per hour.
Dohmke founded Entire in September 2025 after stepping down as GitHub CEO. The startup emerged from stealth earlier this year after securing $60 million in seed funding. The company is building a platform designed for an era where developers increasingly rely on AI agents to write, test and manage software.
“The developer has become the conductor of an orchestra of many of those agents running on computers and in the cloud,” Dohmke said.
Entire’s platform combines distributed Git infrastructure with a system that stores AI coding sessions, including prompts, conversations and model outputs. The company believes this information can help developers understand why a particular piece of code was created, instead of only seeing the final changes.
Along with the India launch, Entire has introduced its Founding Builders Programme for Indian startups, enterprises and open-source developers. Dohmke said the company is also expanding its presence in India and has appointed Karthik Rameshkumar as field CTO. It plans to hire more employees remotely across the country. The company says more than 90 percent of its own software has been developed using AI agents, though human engineers continue to review and contribute to the code.
“It’s not vibe-coded,” Dohmke said.
