Bengaluru man thought he lost his wallet forever in bus, until conductor stepped in
A Bengaluru college student recovered his wallet at a BMTC depot after a conductor recognised him and said he had kept it safe. The episode prompted praise for the staff member's honesty while also reviving debate over lost items on city buses.
A Bengaluru college student who lost his wallet on a (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) BMTC bus was reunited with it a day later after a conductor recognised him and revealed he had safely kept it aside.
The incident was shared on Reddit's r/Bangalore in a post titled, "Lost my wallet in a BMTC bus, recovered it at the depot a day later," where the student explained how a routine bus ride almost cost him his important belongings.
According to the post, the man had been travelling on a BMTC 234A bus heading towards Ullala Satellite Town depot when he accidentally misplaced his wallet. He only realised it was missing the following morning.
Since he was a college student, the wallet did not contain valuables but had important everyday items, including his bus pass, metro card and some cash. Hoping that someone from the transport staff had found it, he decided to visit the depot's timekeeper's office and enquire.
While he was asking around, one of the conductors unexpectedly recognised him and called him by his name. The conductor then told him that he had found the wallet on the bus and had kept it safely with him.
The conductor reportedly explained that he had no way to contact the student but planned to check with the main depot to find his details the next day. If that did not work, he intended to personally drop the wallet off at the student's college.
Sharing his experience, the student advised others who lose belongings on BMTC buses to check with the timekeeper or station master at the route's main depot, adding that the staff and conductors can often help recover lost items.
