Crocodile strolls into Kota hostel mess, cooks flee in panic
A 4-feet-long crocodile entered the basement mess of a boys' hostel in Kota, triggering panic among staff and students. The safe rescue and viral CCTV footage have renewed focus on human-wildlife encounters near residential areas.
A CCTV camera at a boys' hostel in Rajasthan’s Kota captured an unlikely intruder, a crocodile slowly walking down the stairs into the basement mess, sparking panic among students and staff.
The incident took place at a boys' hostel in Coral Park, at around 1 pm. According to officials, the reptile made its way into the hostel unexpectedly, triggering chaos among staff and students.
The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed inside the mess. The footage shows the crocodile slowly descending a flight of stairs before entering the basement dining area. As soon as the cooks and other staff members spotted the reptile, they abandoned the kitchen and ran outside to safety.
Within minutes, news of the unexpected visitor spread across the hostel, prompting coaching students staying there to rush out of the building. The unusual sight created panic and drew a crowd of curious onlookers.

Some students initially attempted to catch the crocodile themselves before trained rescuers arrived. However, their efforts only frightened the animal further, causing it to move frantically around the mess and adding to the confusion inside the hostel.
Preliminary information suggests the crocodile may have entered the hostel from a large drain that passes close to the premises. Officials believe it strayed into the residential complex before eventually reaching the basement mess.
The hostel administration informed the forest department, following which a rescue team was dispatched to the spot. After a careful operation, officials successfully captured the crocodile without causing any harm to the animal or those present.
Forest department official Virendra Singh said the rescue was completed safely and the crocodile was later released into the Chambal River, its natural habitat.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
