Hyundai Motor Company has outlined an ambitious product and manufacturing strategy for India, with plans to introduce 26 new models and updates in the country by 2030. The roadmap was announced at the company’s 2026 CEO Investor Day, where Hyundai also reaffirmed its global target of 5.55 million annual vehicle sales by the end of the decade.

The India programme will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 with the launch of a new A-segment electric SUV. The locally developed model is expected to broaden Hyundai’s EV portfolio beyond the Creta Electric and target buyers looking for a more affordable electric SUV.

New small electric SUV to arrive in Q4 2026

Hyundai has confirmed that its upcoming entry-level electric SUV is being developed with the Indian market in mind. Test versions of the compact EV have already been spotted on Indian roads, suggesting that the model is well into its development phase.

The company has not yet disclosed technical details such as battery capacity, range or power output. However, the new SUV is confirmed to feature Hyundai’s next-generation infotainment system and Level 2 ADAS.

Its compact footprint and high level of localisation are expected to help Hyundai position the model competitively in the rapidly expanding electric SUV market. The new EV will sit below the Creta Electric in Hyundai’s India line-up.

New ICE midsize SUV also in the pipeline

Following the electric SUV, Hyundai will add another midsize SUV powered by an internal combustion engine. The model is currently undergoing testing in India and is expected to occupy a space below or alongside the Creta, depending on its final positioning.

The upcoming SUV is believed to draw inspiration from the Hyundai Bayon sold in international markets, although the India-spec version is expected to receive substantial changes to its styling, dimensions and equipment.

Hyundai is also evaluating multiple powertrain options for the SUV, including a factory-fitted CNG variant. If introduced, the CNG version could help Hyundai take on Maruti Suzuki’s growing range of CNG-equipped SUVs.

India to get 3.2 lakh additional production capacity

Hyundai will significantly expand its manufacturing footprint in India as part of the new product strategy. The company plans to add 3.2 lakh units of annual production capacity by 2030, taking its total Indian capacity to around 14.3 lakh units.

The expansion forms part of Hyundai’s broader global plan to add 1.27 million units of manufacturing capacity by 2030.

Localisation will also increase, with Hyundai targeting 90% local content for its India-made vehicles by the end of the decade. The company will rely on a supplier base of more than 1,400 domestic partners and over 900 local engineers to support this push.

India to remain a key export base

Hyundai intends to retain India’s role as an important export centre, with around 30% of locally produced vehicles expected to be shipped overseas. Export destinations will include markets across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America.

The company’s Indian operations are expected to maintain an annualised production capacity of around 11 lakh units even as additional capacity is added through the planned expansion.

Hyundai is also set to enter the electric three-wheeler segment through its partnership with TVS Motor Company. Under the collaboration, Hyundai will handle vehicle design, while TVS Motor will manufacture the electric three-wheelers.

Genesis India entry planned

Hyundai’s luxury marque Genesis is also preparing to enter India. The company has indicated that Genesis will expand into India and other Asia-Pacific markets as it works towards its global target of 3.5 lakh annual sales by 2030.

While Hyundai has not formally announced a launch date as part of the Investor Day roadmap, Genesis’ India entry is expected to take place in 2027.

Globally, Hyundai plans to introduce more than 100 new models and updates by 2030 across multiple powertrain technologies. The company has also raised its consolidated operating profit margin target to above 9% as it seeks to balance product expansion with improved profitability.
