Indore man poses as IAS officer to evade hotel bill. And then this happens

A fake IAS officer’s elaborate ruse unravelled in Indore after police recovered an ‘IAS RAJ SONI–District Collector’ nameplate and material carrying ‘Collector Sahab’ from his rented house in Indore. The man, originally from Ahmedabad, had allegedly used the fake identity to throw his weight around at a hotel, prompting the management to alert police.

Indore district's Lasudia police arrested the man from his house in Omaxe City-1 after a hotel management alerted them over his conduct.

The accused had gone to the hotel with some associates and allegedly claimed to be a collector after having a meal. When it was time to pay the bill, he allegedly tried to influence the hotel management by citing his so-called official identity.

Suspecting something was amiss, the hotel management informed the police. During verification, police found that the accused was allegedly not an IAS officer.

Police also recovered a fake ‘IAS RAJ SONI–District Collector’ nameplate and other material related to the IAS and collector posts from his house.

According to police, the accused allegedly prepared the material to make his identity appear more influential and to enhance his status and influence in society.

Police said the accused failed to provide satisfactory documents when asked to prove that he was an IAS officer.

According to DCP Aman Rathore, a case has been registered under Section 204 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with falsely personating a public servant.

Police are questioning the accused and investigating whether he used the fake identity to influence people or obtain any benefit.

Police records also showed information about a previous case at Adalaj police station in Gujarat. Police said further investigation is underway.
