Drunk Kanpur man kills sleeping son with brick after dispute over drug use, money
A 23-year-old man in Kanpur died after his father struck him with a brick as he slept following a dispute over money and drug use. Police have formed teams to trace the accused father, who is absconding, while legal proceedings are under way.
A 23-year-old man died after his father allegedly attacked him with a brick while he was sleeping following a dispute over drug use and money in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district.
The father and his 23-year-old son, Abhishek, had a heated argument on Monday over drug use and a money dispute. The altercation later escalated when the father attacked his sleeping son.
According to Sonka Devi, the victim's sister, the father was a habitual drinker and had also consumed alcohol before the family quarrel. She said a dispute over money broke out around 7 pm between the father, Abhishek, the other brother and their mother. After family members intervened and separated them, the father left the house.
“We told them to eat and sleep, and we returned to our house. The two brothers and their mother went to sleep there, while the father returned sometime between 11 pm and 11.30 pm. Abhishek was sleeping when the father hit him repeatedly on the head with a brick. When the mother woke up, she saw what had happened and raised an alarm. The father fled after throwing the brick, and we do not know where he has been since then,” Sonka Devi said.
The family rushed Abhishek to a community health centre after finding him seriously injured. Doctors provided initial treatment and referred him to Kanpur due to the severity of his condition. He was admitted to a private hospital in Kanpur, where he died during treatment.
Police officia Saurabh Kumar Verma, said that the had sent the body for post-mortem after completing the inquest proceedings. He said police were registering a case on the basis of a complaint and had formed teams to arrest the accused father. Further legal proceedings are underway.
