No one's responsible: UP bank manager shoots self while driving, car hits divider
Police said Durgesh Srivastava shot himself in the chest while driving on the Varanasi-Lucknow Highway in Jaunpur. Investigators recovered a country-made pistol and a letter saying no one should be held responsible for his death.
A man died after shooting himself in the chest while driving his car in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district. The incident took place late Thursday, September 24, night on the Varanasi-Lucknow Highway.
The man, identified as Durgesh Srivastava, was posted as the manager of a Union Bank of India branch in Jaunpur. His family resides in the same district.
According to the police, Srivastava was driving along the highway when he reached a spot near a roadside dhaba.
There, he is said to have pressed a country-made pistol against his chest and pulled the trigger inside the moving car.
The vehicle went out of control as the bullet pierced through his body, and it subsequently crashed into the road divider, police said.
People nearby initially assumed that the vehicle had been caught in an accident. When they approached the car, they found that its doors were locked.
They broke the car's window and pulled Srivastava out before taking him to a nearby primary health centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Police also recovered the firearm and a letter from inside the car. According to the senior police official, the letter read, "I am ending my life myself. No one should be blamed for this. I apologise to everyone."
He also apologised to everyone in the letter. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. A field unit is examining the suicide letter, police said.
