GATE 2027 registration begins today: Check important dates and new changes here
IIT Madras has opened registration for GATE 2027, with DigiLocker now mandatory for Indian candidates. A new Robotics and Automation paper has also been added this year. The last date to register for GATE 2027 is September 27.
Registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 has opened today, August 27, with IIT Madras introducing some important changes to the application process and examination. Candidates can apply through the official GATE 2027 portal until September 27 without a late fee.
The biggest change is that DigiLocker-based registration is mandatory for all Indian nationals. Candidates should create or update their verified DigiLocker account before starting the application.

The regular application window will remain open until September 27. Candidates who miss it can apply with a late fee until October 5. The application correction window will be available from October 14 to 21.
The examination will be held on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The result is scheduled to be announced on March 19.
DIGILOCKER NOW PART OF REGISTRATION
Several details, including the candidate's name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, photograph, address and verified identity card number, will be fetched from DigiLocker during registration. Candidates should check that these details are accurate before submitting the form.
GATE 2027 will also have a new Robotics and Automation (RA) test paper, taking the total number of papers to 30. IIT Madras has also announced changes to some existing paper codes and syllabi.

Candidates may need to keep the following documents ready while filling out the GATE 2027 application form:
Valid photo ID proof: Aadhaar card, PAN card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence, etc.
Recent passport-size photograph
Scanned signature
Academic documents: Degree certificate, provisional certificate, or final-year/final-semester marksheet
Caste certificate: If applicable
Domicile/Residence certificate: If applicable
PwD/Disability certificate: If applicable
Keep clear, scanned copies of all applicable documents in the required format and file size before starting the application.
HOW MUCH WILL THE FORM COST?
During the regular application period, the fee is Rs 2,000 per paper for most candidates and Rs 1,000 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates.
During the extended period, the fee rises to Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,500 respectively.
GATE scores can be used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes and are also considered by several public sector organisations for recruitment.
