Was Latent shoot halted over joke on Mukesh Chhabra's girlfriend? Samay Raina reacts

Comedian Samay Raina has responded to an unverified social media claim about the latest episode of India's Got Latent with a joke of his own. Raina reposted the claim on his Instagram Story, which alleged what happened backstage after a joke about casting director Mukesh Chhabra's girlfriend, and responded with a reference to Shaktimaan and Sunil Pal.

"After this, Shaktimaan came, and we all said sorry, Shaktimaan, and then proceeded to do the show after touching Sunil Pal's feet," he wrote on Instagram.

The claim surfaced after the latest episode of Season 2, which featured Chhabra alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhuvan Bam and comedian Kaustubh Agarwal. During the roast-heavy episode, Raina took several shots at Chhabra and his career. At one point, Chhabra brought up his girlfriend while talking about how she might react to the jokes being made about him.

"My girlfriend must be watching. What must she think of me?" Chhabra said. Raina quickly turned that into another punchline. "You have a girlfriend as well? Which film is she going to feature in?" he asked.

The joke got laughs from the panel and the audience, but the moment later became the subject of an unverified claim doing the rounds on social media.

A post by an alleged audience member claimed that Chhabra was upset by the girlfriend joke and that the shoot was paused for around 15 minutes. The post further alleged that Bhuvan Bam stepped in to calm things down and suggested this was also why Raina appeared to make fewer jokes about Chhabra later in the episode.

The girlfriend joke wasn't the only moment from the episode that got people talking. Raina also took aim at Nawazuddin Siddiqui over his appearance in Thamma, asking the actor why he had agreed to do the film.

Elsewhere, an Amitabh Bachchan mimicry act led to a Rekha reference from Bhuvan Bam. Chhabra then turned the joke back on Bam, telling him, “Son, your film career has only just begun, my dear.”

That exchange also played into the larger mood of the episode, which leaned heavily into the kind of unfiltered roasting India’s Got Latent has become known for.

But it was the Chhabra segment that eventually travelled beyond the episode itself.
