Nandan Nilekani, Kamath brothers on Karnataka SIR notice list over mismatches
Prominent Karnataka voters, including Nandan Nilekani's family and the Kamath brothers, were placed on a verification notice list during the electoral roll revision. Officials said no notices were served in these cases and the discrepancies are being handled directly.
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and his family, along with Zerodha founders Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath, are among the prominent names on the notice list generated during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka, official sources said.
Nilekani’s wife and children have reportedly been flagged as “unmapped with the last SIR (2002 rolls)”, while Nithin Kamath, Nikhil Kamath and their mother Revathi Kamath have been flagged for a “parents’ name mismatch” in the Bengaluru South Assembly constituency.
Sources said notices have been generated in several such cases, but prominent personalities and VIPs are not being inconvenienced during the verification process. Officials are expected to visit them, wherever required, to complete the formalities. Sources added that notices generated in these cases had not been served on the individuals concerned.
NOTICES GENERATED FOR PROMINENT NAMES
A notice was also reportedly generated for Bharat Ratna awardee Professor CNR Rao over a name-related mismatch, while actor Shivarajkumar was flagged because his name was not mapped with the 2002 electoral rolls. However, the notices in these cases were also not served, with officials resolving the discrepancies at their level.
The ongoing SIR has flagged voters for several discrepancies, including mismatches in names or parents’ names and failure to map their details with the 2002 electoral rolls.
CLARIFICATION ON SHIVAKUMAR’S MOTHER
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s mother, Gowramma, was also reported to have been flagged for a “self-name mismatch” in the Kanakapura Assembly constituency.
However, the Bengaluru South District Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer clarified that no notice had been issued to her.
The official said two other voters with the same name within the jurisdiction of her polling station had been issued notices.
“Therefore, it is clarified that the confusion arose from the similarity of names, and the news circulated in the visual media stating that a notice was issued to the CM’s mother during the SIR process is not factually correct,” the DC said in a statement.
OFFICIALS TO HANDLE VERIFICATION
Officials said the presence of prominent names on the notice list does not mean the notices have necessarily been served on the individuals.
In such cases, authorities are handling the verification process directly and officials may visit the voters to complete the required formalities, sources said.
