Fresh landslide hits Mussoorie-Dehradun road; heavy vehicles banned for 8-10 days

A fresh landslide damaged a section of the Mussoorie-Dehradun road on Saturday, disrupting traffic and prompting authorities to halt the movement of heavy and large vehicles. Light vehicles are allowed to pass, while repairs are expected to take 8–10 days.

Commuters and drivers faced fresh disruption on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road on Saturday after another landslide damaged a section of the route, triggering long queues and bringing traffic to a standstill for some time.

Following administrative intervention, traffic has been gradually restored. However, the movement of heavy and large vehicles remains prohibited due to the risk of further landslides.

LIGHT VEHICLES ALLOWED, HEAVY VEHICLES DIVERTED

Mussoorie SDM Rahul Anand said the movement of big vehicles has been prohibited as a precautionary measure. Officials remain on duty round the clock to monitor the situation and ensure that alternative routes remain available.

The restriction has been in force since Friday night.

REPAIRS EXPECTED TO TAKE 8–10 DAYS

Arvind, the engineer, said repairs on the damaged stretch are expected to take around 8–10 days. Two-way traffic is likely to be fully restored only after the repair work is completed.

For now, authorities have appealed to motorists and travellers using the route to exercise caution, particularly as the threat of further landslides remains during the monsoon.

LOCALS FEAR FURTHER DISRUPTION

Local resident Deepak said around a month of the monsoon season is still left and several stretches of the road remain vulnerable to landslides.

He expressed concern that debris from the hillside could spill onto the road near the 'Kolukhet Pani Wala Bend', potentially disrupting traffic again.

The administration has said it is closely monitoring the vulnerable sections and has urged commuters to remain cautious while travelling on the route.
