West Bengal ACB catches revenue official taking Rs 25,000 bribe in North 24 Parganas
The Anti-Corruption Branch arrested a Revenue Inspector at the Bagdah Block Land and Land Reforms Office after he allegedly accepted Rs 25,000 from a landowner. The trap followed a complaint over a pending land conversion request, and legal proceedings are now underway.
A Revenue Inspector posted at the Bagdah Block Land and Land Reforms Office in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas was arrested on Wednesday after the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) caught him accepting a Rs 25,000 bribe from a landowner.
The operation was launched after a local resident approached the ACB with a complaint alleging that the official had demanded money to clear a pending land conversion request.
ACB SETS TRAP AT LAND OFFICE
Acting on the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap at the Bagdah office. The Revenue Inspector was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000 from the complainant.
The currency notes handed over to the official as part of the trap had been treated with a chemical to help the ACB establish the acceptance of the bribe. After the operation, a video showed ACB personnel washing the official’s hands as part of the procedure. The official was subsequently taken into custody by the anti-corruption agency.
LEGAL PROCEEDINGS UNDERWAY
The ACB confirmed the arrest and said legal proceedings under the relevant statutory provisions were underway.
The operation was carried out following the complainant’s allegation that the official had sought illegal gratification in connection with the pending land conversion request.
