Debate: Yogi Adityanath's Mathura Temple Plan: Grand Janmashtami Gift Ahead Of 2027 UP Polls

In an interview with India Today, Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, counsel representing the Hindu petitioner in the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi case, discussed the legal status of the Mathura title suit. Jain asserted that out-of-court dialogue is untenable, stating, "Dialogue is not possible at all and the only resolution is by a judgement of the Honourable Court." He highlighted that the Allahabad High Court ruled the suits are maintainable and not barred by the Places of Worship Act or the Waqf Act. Jain detailed historical evidence regarding the 13.37-acre disputed land, citing the demolition ordered by Aurangzeb in 1670 as recorded in Maasir-i-Alamgiri, the 1770 Battle of Govardhan, British auction records from 1815, and prior legal rulings. He expressed confidence that a court-appointed Advocate Commission survey will establish that the prison cell of Kansa is located at the site.

A development plan has been outlined to build grand temple complexes in Mathura and Vrindavan on the lines of Ayodhya and Varanasi. The initiative aims to ensure devotees face no difficulties while boosting spiritual tourism across Uttar Pradesh. The announcement comes amid the ongoing legal dispute over the Krishna Janmabhoomi land in the sacred city, ahead of the 2027 state assembly elections.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan has clarified that he has no connection with right-wing activist and influencer Swatantra Bharadwaj after a viral video sparked controversy. In the video, Bharadwaj admitted to an assault and claimed he had the backing of several NDA leaders, including Paswan, to avoid arrest. Reacting to the claims, Paswan stated that his name was misused by the podcaster alongside other political leaders. Emphasising that admitting to such acts openly on a podcast without facing consequences would set a wrong precedent for the nation, the Union Minister confirmed that he has lodged an official complaint against Bharadwaj and backed calls for strict legal action.

The Karnataka government has withdrawn the controversial Parks Amendment Bill following widespread protests by citizens and opposition parties across Bengaluru. The proposed legislation sought to permit up to five percent of government parkland to be utilised for public purposes and infrastructure projects, sparking concerns over the loss of green spaces such as Lalbagh and Cubbon Park. Opposition leaders accused the administration of attempting to facilitate the contentious Tunnel Road Project, alleging unscientific planning.
