Delhi courts shut on Sep 11-12 for BRICS Summit, Lok Adalat postponed
The Delhi High Court and subordinate courts will remain closed on September 11 and 12 because of the BRICS Summit in the capital. Cases listed on those dates will shift to September 14, while the National Lok Adalat has been moved to October 10.
The Delhi High Court and courts subordinate to it will remain closed on September 11 and 12, 2026, in view of the BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in Delhi from September 11 to 13.
The Delhi High Court issued a notification dated September 8 declaring Friday, September 11, a holiday for the High Court and courts subordinate to it. Saturday, September 12, which is the second Saturday of the month, has also been declared a holiday for the subordinate courts.
SEPTEMBER 11 AND 12 DECLARED HOLIDAYS
As per the notification, the holiday on September 11 will apply to the Delhi High Court and courts subordinate to it.
The notification also states that September 12 will be a holiday for the subordinate courts.
Cases listed before the Delhi High Court on September 11 will now be taken up on Monday, September 14, along with the cases already fixed for that date.
Similarly, cases fixed for September 11 and September 12 in the subordinate courts will also be taken up on September 14, in addition to the cases already scheduled for that day.
ALTERNATE COURT SITTING DATES ANNOUNCED
The High Court has also announced alternative working days in lieu of the holidays.
October 3, 2026, will be observed as a court sitting day for the Delhi High Court, while October 10, 2026, will be a court sitting day for the courts subordinate to the High Court.
In addition, November 14, 2026, will be observed as a court sitting day for all courts subordinate to the Delhi High Court.
NATIONAL LOK ADALAT POSTPONED TO OCTOBER 10
The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), through its notification dated August 25, had earlier announced that the upcoming National Lok Adalat, scheduled for September 12, would be postponed.
It will now be held on October 10, 2026, which is the second Saturday.
The Lok Adalat will be organised at Delhi's district court complexes, including Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Patiala House, Rohini, Saket, Dwarka and Rouse Avenue.
The notification states that the Lok Adalat will deal with matters involving amicable settlement of all types of civil and criminal compoundable cases, except divorce cases.
OTHER FORUMS TO HOLD LOK ADALAT
Apart from the district court complexes, the National Lok Adalat will also be organised on October 10 at the High Court of Delhi, Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs), Permanent Lok Adalats, Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions.
WHAT SHOULD LITIGANTS DO?
Litigants and parties can move an application for listing their cases in the National Lok Adalat before the concerned court, forum or tribunal where their case is pending.
For pre-litigation matters, applications can be submitted before the concerned office of the undersigned, latest by seven days before the date of the National Lok Adalat.
TRAFFIC CHALLANS CAN ALSO BE TAKEN UP
The DSLSA notification also provides information about compoundable traffic challans pending on the Virtual Court portal.
Compoundable challans pending up to June 30, 2026, will be taken up. Litigants or violators can download their challan slips through the link provided in the notification from October 5, 2026, at 10 am onwards.
The notification states that a maximum of 50,000 challans per day can be downloaded, subject to an overall limit of 2 lakh challans.
