BRICS Summit 2026 Delhi traffic advisory: Roads to avoid, diversions and airport routes

Delhi Traffic Police has issued an elaborate traffic plan for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit 2026, with the event scheduled at Bharat Mandapam from September 11 to 13. With VIP convoys and international delegations expected to move through the city, motorists will face controlled roads, diversions and route restrictions, particularly across New Delhi and surrounding corridors.

In the latest post on X, Delhi police urged commuters to be extra cautioned and take all necessary steps to avoid any inconvenience, the post reads: "In view of the BRICS Summit on September 11, 2026, traffic diversions and regulated movement will be in place across key routes in Delhi from 2:00 PM to 8:30 PM. * Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, use public transport, especially the Metro, and follow designated diversion routes and instructions from traffic personnel."

The advisory lists 22 diversion points, more than 35 controlled roads and several alternate routes for commuters travelling to railway stations and the airport.

The Delhi Traffic Police has also strongly recommended using the Metro for airport travel and public transport during the summit period.

ROADS TO AVOID DURING BRICS SUMMIT

Motorists have been advised not to plan routes through the following roads and stretches during the summit:

The advisory says motorists should avoid planning routes through the controlled areas for the duration of the summit.

The traffic plan identifies 22 diversion points across key parts of Delhi. These include:

Traffic diversions will be implemented at these points depending on VIP movement and restrictions in the surrounding corridors.

NEW DELHI RAILWAY STATION: ALTERNATE ROUTES

Passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station have been given three suggested routes.

• Route A: ISBT Kashmiri Gate Boulevard Road Rani Jhansi Marg DBG Road Panchkuian Road Outer Circle, Connaught Place.

• Route B: Ashram Chowk Ring Road Raj Ghat JLN Marg.

• Route C: Vande Mataram Marg Dr Ambedkar Marg Panchkuian Road Outer Circle, Connaught Place.

Commuters heading to the station should leave with additional travel time because routes may be affected by VIP convoy movement.

OLD DELHI RAILWAY STATION: SUGGESTED ROUTES

For Old Delhi Railway Station, the advisory suggests:

• Route A: ISBT Kashmiri Gate Ring Road Hanuman Mandir S P Mukherjee Marg Rani Jhansi Marg Rani Jhansi Flyover Boulevard Road Lothian Road.

• Route B: Ashram Chowk Ring Road Raj Ghat Ring Road Hanuman Mandir S P Mukherjee Marg.

• Route C: Vande Mataram Marg Dr Ambedkar Marg.

HAZRAT NIZAMUDDIN RAILWAY STATION ROUTES

For passengers travelling to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, two routes have been suggested.

• Route A: Ring Road Ashram Chowk Mathura Road.

• Route B: ISBT Kashmiri Gate Ring Road Raj Ghat Ring Road Ashram Chowk Mathura Road.

AIRPORT TRAVEL: METRO STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

Delhi Traffic Police has strongly recommended the Metro for airport travel during the summit in view of the traffic regulations.

Motorists travelling to the airport should plan their journey according to their direction of travel.

FROM GURUGRAM

• For T3/T4/T2, the suggested route is:

• NH-48 Rao Gajraj Singh Marg Old Delhi-Gurugram Road UER-II service road T3 Terminal Road.

For T1, the route is:

• NH-48 under Mahipalpur Flyover T3 Road NH-48 Mahipalpur Flyover NH-48 Ulaanbaatar Marg T1 Road.

FROM DWARKA

For T3/T4/T2/T1, commuters can use:

Sector 22, Dwarka Road UER-II, including the new tunnel to T3.

FROM NEW DELHI AND SOUTH DELHI

For T3, the suggested route is:

• Ring Road AIIMS Chowk Moti Bagh Chowk RTR Marg under Shankar Vihar Flyover Sanjay T-Point service road NH-48 under Mahipalpur Flyover Rangpuri T3 Road.

For T3/T4/T2/T1, commuters can use:

AIIMS Chowk Ring Road Moti Bagh Chowk RTR Marg Shankar Vihar Flyover Ulaanbaatar Marg.

FROM WEST DELHI

For T3/T4/T2/T1, the suggested route is:

• Punjabi Bagh Chowk Ring Road Raja Garden Chowk Najafgarh Road Pankha Road Dabri Dwarka Road Road No. 224 Dabri-Gurugram Road Sector 22, Dwarka Road UER-II service road NH-48 T3 Terminal Road.

FROM NORTH AND EAST DELHI

The suggested route for T3/T4/T2/T1 is:

• ISBT Kashmiri Gate Rani Jhansi Flyover Rohtak Road Punjabi Bagh Chowk Raja Garden Chowk Najafgarh Road Pankha Road Dabri Dwarka Road Road No. 224 Dabri-Gurugram Road Sector 22, Dwarka Road UER-II service road NH-48 T3 Terminal Road.

METRO TO REMAIN AVAILABLE

The advisory says Metro services will remain available at all stations without disruption, making the Metro one of the preferred options for commuters during the summit.

For people travelling to the airport or other major transit hubs, the traffic police has advised allowing extra travel time and opting for public transport wherever possible.

BUSES, TSRs AND TAXIS

Bus services will continue, although necessary diversions may be introduced during VIP movements.

TSRs and taxis will also face traffic restrictions. The advisory states that roadside parking will not be permitted except in designated areas, and diversions may be implemented during VIP convoy movement.

IMPORTANT RULES FOR MOTORISTS

The traffic advisory also lays down several important instructions:

• Emergency and medical vehicles will get priority and obstruction-free access.

• Essential services and utility operations will be allowed uninterrupted access in all zones.

• Commuters travelling to airports, railway stations and ISBTs should allow extra travel time.

• Public transport should be preferred wherever possible.

• Non-destined commercial vehicles are prohibited from entering Delhi.

• Vehicles must be parked only in designated parking areas.

• Roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads is strictly prohibited.

• Motorists must follow instructions from traffic personnel deployed on the roads.

• People should report unidentified objects or suspicious activity to the nearest police officer.

• Commuters should follow official Delhi Police traffic updates for real-time changes.

PUBLIC ADVISED TO PLAN TRAVEL IN ADVANCE

With the BRICS Summit bringing international leaders, dignitaries and delegations to New Delhi, traffic restrictions will remain dynamic and may change depending on VIP convoy movements.

The Delhi Traffic Police has therefore urged commuters to avoid controlled corridors, use the suggested alternate routes and prefer public transport, particularly the Metro, wherever possible.
