Jana Nayagan advance booking tops Rs 10 crore within hours despite limited rollout
CM Vijay's Jana Nayagan has crossed Rs 10.60 crore in India-tracked opening-day advance bookings despite a limited rollout. Strong numbers from Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru have positioned the delayed release for a big start on July 23.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's swansong Jana Nayagan has crossed the Rs 10-crore mark in India in advance bookings for its opening day, setting the stage for a strong start despite a limited rollout. Directed by H Vinoth, the film is all set for a grand release in theatres on July 23 after a seven-month delay due to certification issues.
The political action drama has grossed Rs 10.60 crore in India-tracked pre-sales by Track Tollywood for its July 23 release, with over Rs 4.35 lakh tickets sold across 4,314 shows as of Sunday morning. The film has achieved the milestone despite releasing in a controlled number of screens, with Tamil continuing to drive the bulk of its bookings. With several premium locations yet to open bookings, trade expects the advance sales to pick up further by Monday or Tuesday.
Tamil Nadu has emerged as the biggest market for the film, contributing Rs 4.87 crore, nearly half of the overall advance booking revenue. Karnataka follows with Rs 3.04 crore, buoyed largely by Bengaluru's phenomenal response, while Kerala has added Rs 1.69 crore to the tally.
Among cities, Bengaluru has taken the lead with Rs 3.01 crore in advance sales, accounting for nearly 30 per cent of the nationwide pre-sales. Chennai has registered Rs 1.18 crore, backed by an impressive occupancy of over 86 per cent, while Coimbatore has contributed Rs 67.16 lakh. Hyderabad, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi have also posted encouraging numbers ahead of the film's release.
Unsurprisingly, the Tamil version dominates the bookings, contributing Rs 10.17 crore, or 96 per cent of the overall pre-sales. The Telugu version has grossed Rs 42.21 lakh, while the Hindi release has seen only a marginal contribution so far. Standard 2D screenings account for almost the entire advance booking total.
The impressive advance sales come after Jana Nayagan after certification-related hurdles delayed its release by nearly seven months. Originally slated for a Pongal release, the film was pushed by nearly seven months following legal hurdles and a prolonged wait for its release. After receiving an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the KVN Productions-backed film is gearing up for what is expected to be one of Tamil cinema's biggest openings of the year.
This comes despite an high-definition HD leak of the film in April, which sparked widespread concern among fans and the makers.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narain and Nassar. The film is expected to be Vijay's final acting venture as he shifts his focus to full-time politics, adding to the anticipation surrounding its theatrical release.
