Prepare for heavy rain on Saturday: IMD cautions Gujarat; Bihar to be on edge
The monsoon is showing no signs of slowing down as multiple weather systems continue to boost rainfall across India. Here's where the wettest conditions are expected on Saturday.
Large parts of India are set to remain under the influence of an active southwest monsoon on Satruday, July 25, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall across several regions.
Heavy to very heavy rain is expected over parts of western India, while many northern, eastern and southern states are also likely to receive intense showers through the day.
The wet spell is being driven by a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, along with an active monsoon trough stretching across northern India.
These weather systems are helping pull abundant moisture inland, sustaining widespread rain over much of the country.
GUJARAT TO BEAR THE BRUNT
According to the IMD, Gujarat will remain the worst-affected state on Saturday, with isolated places likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by extremely heavy rain.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also forecast over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha and Rajasthan.
Heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places across Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Karnataka and the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Jharkhand, Coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, among other regions.
MONSOON TO REMAIN ACTIVE
The IMD's forecast suggests that the monsoon will continue to stay active across large parts of the country.
Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected to persist over the Himalayan states, the west coast, central India and several eastern states over the coming days.
The forecast follows an exceptionally wet spell in parts of western India.
During the 24 hours ending Friday morning, Gujarat recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
Furthermore, extremely heavy rainfall was also reported from parts of Konkan, Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch.
With the low-pressure system expected to remain influential, the IMD indicates that rainfall activity is likely to continue over several regions through the weekend, particularly across western, central and northwestern India.
