Kiren Rijiju goes back to the 80s as viral AI trend takes social media by storm

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has joined the viral 80s AI trend that has taken social media by storm as he shared a retro-styled clip of himself posing against a car.

The trend has seen social media users turn to AI tools such as ChatGPT to reimagine themselves as if they were living in the 1980s, creating images and videos inspired by the decade’s distinctive fashion and photography.

In a post on X, Rijiju shared a short clip in which he is seen wearing a blue shirt and trousers with a grey blazer and sunglasses. He poses against a car in the clip, completing the throwback look.

“Why is everyone going back to the 80s vibes? I'm also forced to 80s nostalgia,” Rijiju wrote in the caption.

The trend has gained popularity online as users experimented with AI-generated versions of themselves inspired by the fashion and visual aesthetics of the decade.

The generated pictures typically recreate the visual language of photographs from the era, with muted colours, film grain, faded tones and retro styling used to give contemporary photographs an old-school appearance.

Kiren Rijiju is not the only Union Minister to join the trend. Earlier, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also shared his take on it, captioning his post, “Vibing to the 80s trend.”
