A Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker carrying 28 Indian crew members was attacked in Iranian territorial waters on Friday, with all Indian nationals reported safe, the Indian Embassy in Tehran said.
The embassy said it was in contact with the relevant authorities following the incident involving the vessel, Disha. In a statement posted on X, it confirmed that all 28 Indian crew members were safe.
The Forward Seamen's Union of India, which represents Indian maritime workers, said the tanker was attacked by an unknown missile near the Strait of Hormuz while sailing towards the Persian Gulf.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of commercial shipping in the strategically vital waterway, which lies between Iran and Oman. Before the latest conflict, the Strait of Hormuz served as a key transit route for around one-fifth of global energy supplies.
Tensions in the region have escalated since a fragile truce between Washington and Tehran collapsed in early July, triggering renewed exchanges of strikes and further disrupting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
