Accused, 21, took number plates off Mercedes over running over 2, arrested: Cops
Police said Akhil returned to a Chandigarh nightclub after a parking dispute and drove his Mercedes into two youths. Investigators said CCTV footage showed he had removed the car's number plates before the incident, while a separate vandalism case is also being probed.

Twenty-one-year-old Akhil has been arrested and released on bail after running over two youths with his Mercedes following a dispute outside a nightclub in Chandigarh’s Sector 26 on Saturday evening. Police investigations have now revealed that the accused removed the car’s number plates before carrying out the attack and reattached them afterward in an apparent attempt to evade identification.
The incident unfolded outside a nightclub in Sector 26, where Akhil, a resident of Faridabad currently staying in Panchkula for his studies, had arrived with friends to attend a party. A minor was also accompanying him, police said.
According to investigators, an argument broke out between Akhil's group and another group of youths over a parking issue after they exited the club. While the confrontation initially appeared to end when Akhil drove away, police allege he returned moments later after first removing the Mercedes' number plates.
Investigators say the accused then drove the luxury car into the crowd, leaving two youths, identified as Amjad and Preet, injured. Both victims were treated at a hospital and have since been discharged.
DSP Abhinandan said CCTV footage and videos collected from the scene played a key role in identifying the accused and reconstructing the sequence of events. Police believe the number plates were reattached after the incident in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
The accused was arrested and later released on bail. Police have invoked relevant legal provisions and said the investigation is continuing.
Investigators also revealed that the Mercedes involved in the incident belongs to Akhil's uncle, while his father is a real-estate businessman based in Faridabad.
In a parallel development, police have registered a separate case over alleged vandalism and a disturbance inside the nightclub. Based on CCTV footage and other evidence, the case includes charges under the Arms Act. Police said one of the individuals involved is believed to be the manager of a singer, and further investigation is underway.
