Shillong Airbnb owner blames UP guests for leaving behind trash, holes in walls
A Shillong Airbnb host has accused four guests from Uttar Pradesh of vandalising the property, assaulting a caretaker and threatening staff after being asked to leave.

An Airbnb owner in Shillong has accused four guests from Uttar Pradesh of leaving a trail of destruction at a newly opened homestay, alleging vandalism, rule violations, threats and an assault on a caretaker. The incident has since gone viral on social media.
The incident came to light after the owners of The Oakwood, an Airbnb located in Risa Colony, Shillong, posted before-and-after images showing the condition of the property following the guests' stay.
"All the effort to put up a homestay property for a comfortable stay of guests. And then this is how some of them treat the property. With zero civic sense!" the post read.
According to the hosts, the four guests violated multiple house rules during their stay. They claimed the group brought unauthorised visitors onto the premises, consumed alcohol, smoked inside the rooms despite a strict no-smoking policy, engaged in vandalism and hooliganism, and behaved aggressively when confronted by the staff.
The hosts further alleged that the situation escalated after the guests were asked to vacate the property.
They claimed that one of the guests, identified as Akhand Singh Suryavanshi, physically assaulted the caretaker, while another, Vikash Singh, was named in a public appeal urging other homestay owners across Shillong and Meghalaya not to accept future bookings from the group.

"If you ever come across this person, Vikash Singh, please never allow them to book your property. Akhand Singh Suryavanshi even raised his hands on our caretaker," the hosts wrote.
They also claimed the guests attempted to deny responsibility for the damage.
"The guest had the audacity to say that the property looked this way before he checked in," the post added.
The allegations gained further traction after travel content creator Reuben Charles on Instagram, shared a video expressing disbelief over the incident. Charles said he had stayed at the same Airbnb just days before and described it as a peaceful and well-maintained property.
In his video, he said that the rooms had been left strewn with rubbish, the walls had holes punched into them, someone had vomited into a plant pot, and the sink area had been badly stained. According to him, the damage amounted to thousands of rupees.
The viral posts have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users condemning the alleged behaviour and expressing support for the hosts.
Several also called for greater accountability from guests, arguing that homestays rely heavily on mutual trust and respect between property owners and travellers.
